Not Yet Ready

Last night my colleagues threw a wonderful – really wonderful – party to say goodbye to me at the home of our Editor.  Everyone brought terrific food, the atmosphere was chatty and full of laughter and the people I care about most in the Rogers building were there. 

They had purchased a really funny cake whose icing-written message would make sense to no one outside our little group, but hit home with me!  A couple of dollar-store motorcycles, that actually made motorcycle noises, adorned its top.  It was priceless!

Paul Cook, my work husband and on air partner, gave a funny and touching speech and even as I felt a few tears well up in my eyes I knew I wasn’t ready to give in to emotions about leaving my work family just yet.  I’m going to be there for six more weeks.  It’s just too soon. I have a lot of work to do and a lot of early mornings still to come.  So although part of me felt it was the time to throw my arms around those who mean so much to me and tell them so, I’m just not “there” yet.  I can’t allow myself to be!  It’s still all about business for a while. 

But as soon as it’s not, and those floodgates open, folks – you’ll all want to make sure you’re on higher ground!
