Barenaked Lady in Trouble

Reaction has been mostly sadness over the drug arrest of Steven Page in New York late last week.  Disbelief, too. Not that many of us know Page personally.  I certainly don’t.  But the fun-loving, clean-living persona sure did permeate my perception of the band’s members.

Page is facing a maximum of 15 years in prison if he’s convicted of possessing a controlled substance and this morning, a look at the police report reveals he apparently admitted to snorting cocaine just before police came into his girlfriend’s apartment kitchen and found the drugs.

Page hasn’t had his day in court.  That will happen next month.  His manager says he’ll be exonerated when the facts are heard.  I hope so.  The Ladies’ latest CD is Snacktime, a recording for kids.  And it’s not as if we’re talking about Amy Winehouse here.  Page isn’t known as a notorious…anything!  So there seems to be a collective holding of breath and comment until the case is heard. And I think that considering the band members’ good reputations, we owe Page that.
