Sex and the Shopping
On this morning’s show, 680″ s Jaime Pulfer reported that several retailers of womens’ fashions are counting on the Sex and the City movie (opening tomorrow) to give them a boost at the cash registers. Sales have apparently been in a bit of a slump but they’re hoping Carrie’s many changes of outfits will give girls the get-up and go to pull out the credit card and do a little damage to it.
I have to admit that I have purchased some items that I’ve seen on celebrities. But in my defence, it’s only because I really liked the item, not that I wanted to look like the celeb! When I interviewed Shania Twain at Fan Fair in Nashville one year, I noticed she was wearing platform sneakers that were pretty cool! So I bought a pair and wore them. In fact, I was probably the only person wearing them that summer! I certainly didn’t influence anyone else the way she influenced me.
I’ve been keeping my eyes open for a dress similar to one I saw on Angelina Jolie. But I also want a pair of capris I saw on a friend of mine the other day. So it’s not just celebrities. It’s getting ideas from people who know a thing or two about fashion. And it doesn’t mean that I think I’m going to turn into Angelina Jolie because I wear a dress like hers! But I’ll take cues from just about anywhere for what the heck to wear. Anywhere but high schools and retirement homes.
