A Star Has Fallen
Yes, I’m heading toward my own divorce but that doesn’t mean I can’t have a few hearty laughs at the misery of one egomaniacal, preachy, holier-than-thou, judgmental Star Jones. Frankly, she’s old enough to know better.(She and I were born in the same year!) And she horrified anyone with an ounce of sense when she put her wedding up for sale.
Ms. Jones was a co-host on The View 3 and a half years ago when she was preparing to wed Mr. Reynolds, a banker. She took a dress, catering, jewellery, venues for pre-wedding events and many other goods in exchange for blabbing about them on the show and elsewhere. Guests at the wedding left with a trinket. Not a picture of the couple or a slice of wedding cake, no, they got goodie bags as if they were at the Oscars, which, to Star, they were. The LL Bean canvas bags were stuffed with jewellery, clothing, Nintendo games, books and more “donated” items.
Like many brides before her, Star made it all about the wedding. It was a big show and she was the star, pun intended. Then she got all preachy about love and marriage and commitment, going so far as to release a book called “Shine: A Physical, Emotional and Spiritual Journey To Finding Love.” At the time I said, and I quote, “How dare she tell me – or anyone else – how to live?!”
I don’t honestly wish emotional pain on anyone but my goodness, this always seems to happen to people who have the audacity to tell others how to live! It’s so predictable. I’ve been keeping half an eye on a 20-something newspaper columnist who’s lecturing in the same vein (or vain!) right now. I’ll write her a note after she hits a big life bump and isn’t so sure of everything anymore. Funny how that works. The older you get the less you know. And some of us have known that a lot longer than Star Jones and we’ve never been under the delusion that we have the right to tell everyone else how to live their lives.
