Sikh In The Head

Posted By Lisa

A local Sikh man is challenging a law that says he has to wear a helmet while riding a motorcyle. He must wear his turban as part of his faith. Helmets don’t fit over turbans. Ergo, he has a problem.

We have freedom of religion in this country and we darn well should. No one ought to interfere with his right to wear his turban. But we also have freedom of stupidity and if any man of any religion at any time, wants to deny the stone cold fact that helmets save your cranium from spilling its contents all over the pavement if you crash, he should be allowed to – with the proviso that his family picks up the tab for medical bills, roadway rinsing, etc.

That will never happen in a civilized society. So what do we do? We take a lesson from the Great Gazoo, Fred Flintstone’s little, wise, extra-terrestrial friend! He had a bulbous shaped head, much like someone who’s wearing a turban, and he managed to find a helmet shaped to fit him. There is an industry waiting to be born for turban-covering helmets, a niche market within the greater helmet industry. Then it would truly be one law for all – helmets for everyone! It’s so simple, I’m guessing Harley Davidson is working on a prototype right now.
