A Wise And Grounded Woman

Posted By Lisa

was never a big fan of Laura Linney – at first. I thought she overacted terribly in The Truman Show. I couldn’t see what critics saw in her – until Love Actually, in which she was terrific and believable and heart-breaking all at once. Now I like her as an actress and as of yesterday, her 44th birthday, as a woman, too – because of something she said.

Linney was asked by some unimaginative and mildly sexist reporter, what it’s like to be a woman over 40 (aka over the hill) in Hollywood. Here’s her answer.

“It’s really about being realistic. No one is going to be an A-list movie star and make millions of dollars forever, you’re just not. It’s also about the fact that I think we’re lucky we got to be 40. There are so many people out there who die way too young, so to all of this ‘Boohoo, we’re getting older,’ I’m like, ‘Well, there is an alternative.’”

You go girl! And I hope you’re making movies 4 more decades from now.
