Unexpected and Expected
The gossip sheets in New York have been whispering that Sean Penn has been out on the town with a string of models and actresses in recent months. Now, his wife of 11 years, Robin Wright Penn, has filed for divorce.
No one truly knows what goes on inside a marriage except the two people involved. Appearances are just that – appearances. But the Penns had some unusual times, for sure. The actor insisted for several years that his family live in a string of trailers on their huge tract of land. More recently, he’d take off to Iraq and fancy himself a journalist with a decidedly left-wing bent. (For the record, a journalist reports what he sees. A writer with a point of view reporting only on evidence that support his views, is not a journalist. And I say that as someone who shares many of Penn’s thoughts on the war!)
In my view, Robin Wright Penn is the best actress of her generation; my generation. You’ve likely seen her in Forrest Gump as Jenny and as The Princess Bride. But if you want to further your education on her immense talent, I’d recommend Moll Flanders where she stars opposite the always wonderful Morgan Freeman. On ability alone, she should be a huge star with a shelf full of Academy Awards but stardom and fame aren’t her goals. That explains why she is little-seen, despite working constantly. Maybe now she’ll make some better and bigger choices and grow her unofficial fan club.
In other celebrity news, Britney Spears has lost custody of her kids. Once in a while the courts get it right, eh?
