A Second Childhood, and A Third and…

Some people find their inner child easily. For others, it doesn’t come as naturally. I have lost close touch with my inner kid in recent years and recently I’ve enjoyed getting to know her again, the little scamp!

Today, all it took was a can of Alphaghetti. I have vivid memories of my high school best friend Guppy and I boiling up some ‘ghetti and making toast on crisp winter days, during our long and crazy games of Scrabble or maybe after being at the Smithville Arena to watch friends play hockey. The little lettered noodles in tomato sauce evoke the warm and fuzzy feeling of being under a thick blanket on a cold morning. So I bought a couple of cans and fired one up in the microwave. It did not disappoint! It was still as bland and soothing as it was back in the day.

And on this Alphaghetti revisiting day, my Mom happened to reveal to me that not so long ago she and my Aunt Ann indulged in a little frozen turkey bowling while visiting a grocery store late one night! My practical, sensible, salt-and-pepper haired, very grown up Mom – bowling with someone else’s frozen turkeys, on a boot-trodden store floor. Imagine!

I can’t remember the last time I felt so proud to be her daughter!
