Hurts So Good
I believe I have mentioned before that I go through spells where I am accident prone. I hit my head, I bang my knee, I stub my toe and whack my hand – sometimes all on the same day. Only once has one of these sorry little incidents resulted in a broken bone so I consider myself very lucky.
But now I’m occasionally ending up with a bump or a cut that I can’t remember acquiring! Sometime on the weekend I did something to my left elbow that resulted in a huge red circle. That redness has now morphed into a large bruise and it’s quite sore. I have a vague recollection of accidentally hitting it against something – but what, and where? I have no idea.
The only thing I can assume is that as we get older our brains have less capacity for memory, so my fantastical grey matter has simply decided that little things like where I picked up an insignificant injury are not worth recalling. My brain is saving room for Monty Python skits and where I left my glasses. (On my head.) As I baby my curious elbow for a few more days, that’s my theory and I’m sticking to it.
