A Butt And A Brew
Science has finally caught up with barstool logic, and discovered a link between cigarettes and alcohol. When I finally quit smoking for good in 1988, I could not go anywhere near a beer for fear I would be compelled to light up again.
This new study out today claims that nicotine helps prevent the absorption of alcohol in the body and that’s why so many drinkers smoke, and smokers drink. It’s also why a member of our newsteam told us this morning that when he quit smoking but continued to drink, he could no longer hold his booze and got hammered really quickly.
The study was conducted in rats. Is anyone else a bit fed up with being biologically compared to a rat? But I digress. The researchers are certain the results would be duplicated in humans.
No wonder so many bar owners are against a smoking ban. Smokers need to drink more booze, to feel its effects. And back when I tried to drink after I quit smoking, I craved a cigarette because it helped dull the effect of the alcohol. It all makes perfect sense. All I can say is, thank goodness for an end to nicotine cravings and for 0% Beck’s beer.
