Another Cliche Turns Out To Be True
The little things in life can make or break your day.
Today, an enthusiastic intern offered – actually offered! – to make a mid-show coffee run to Timmy’s. I had a $20 out of my wallet faster than you can say “double double” and off she went, while we smiled like simple folk in anticipation of the nectar-filled paper cups to come.
Coffee is a huge priority for work hubby and me. It’s not that we drink huge amounts of it. We have both cut back and I’m down to drinking just two cups a day, which is amazing considering my long and loving relationship with caffeine. We don’t mess around with the cheap stuff; it’s Second Cup beans for me and Starbucks for him. It’s been about as close to heartbreaking as it can get when one of us has forgotten his or her thermos. Fortunately, we both know how to share.
The station’s coffee is actually pretty good. There’s a single-cup rig in the lunchroom where I can enjoy green tea to start and dark roast coffee if I need an extra boost.
But there is nothing like sending off a willing helper with a happy, “And get something for yourself, too!” and waiting for that astoundingly consistent, steaming hot beverage to make its way to the control room. We agree, to our embarrassment, that it makes us unreasonably happy! Perhaps it’s because it happens so rarely. If one of those coffee shops would set up a delivery system for us they would have the most loyal customers in the city, but we know that’s not likely to happen. So, for today, thank you to our intern for being a good pal and recognizing the significance of a little treat for the road-weary morning team. It really did make our morning!
