Spray Tan Gone Awry
So, is it the product, or the person who applies it? Who gets the blame when it goes horribly wrong?
I was a sun worshipper in my youth. A beer, a paddle boat and 30 degree sun made for a perfect day when I was…16. But those days are long gone. I’m a near-beer kind of woman, I haven’t been in a paddle boat since 3 years ago at Wonderland and I’m slathered in sunscreen even on cloudy days and always on the look-out for a swatch of shade. But I don’t want to look pasty and a bit of a tan is attractive so last year I went the spray-on route.
This year, there are so many more products available. My spray tan turned a bit orange over the winter so I tossed it out and bought a cream that boasts “no streaking, no mess, no mistakes!” or something close to that. My legs turned out alright but both feet have looney sized dollops of darker brown on them. Luckily most of it is covered by my shoes but it’s uneven, unattractive and unlike the spray, this stuff doesn’t wash off.
Sara Buchan gave me good advice today. “Don’t say anything and no one will notice. The audience at the play doesn’t get a copy of the script!” Right on, sister. But be warned, those labels lie and if you go a little bit uneven in the application process, you’ll end up with what look like giant age spots on your skin. Still, I have to say, it’s better than pasty white.
