Idiot Nearly Gets Dad Killed

Posted By Lisa

A stranger learned a lesson in snap judgments at the expense of my Dad.

Jack (my Pop) was in an accident the other night. He ran into some guardrails after swerving to miss a deer and he’s actually very lucky to be alive. (So is the deer!) His pick-up ended up wedged with a buckled door and Dad couldn’t get out. The first guy on the scene rushed to the truck. My Dad has Parkinson’s Disease and he was obviously in a little bit of shock over the crash. He yelled to the guy and pointed to the door with a trembling hand, asking him to give it a good pull so Dad could get out. The truck, you see, was teetering on the edge of a very steep ditch and if it was going to roll, Dad didn’t particularly want to roll with it. But instead of helping, the guy calmly removed his cellphone and punched 9-1-1. Looking in Dad’s eyes he bellowed into the phone, ‘Yeah, we’ve got a drunk driver here!’. My poor father hadn’t had a drop to drink and here he was trapped in the precariously perched truck while this yahoo stares him down – ostensibly “punishing” him for being drunk.

The cops got Dad out, ascertained that he had not, in fact, been drinking, and looked after him and his vehicle in the usual ways. The witness felt dumb, as he should, and meekly allowed Dad to warm up in his vehicle. Dad doesn’t hold a grudge. I do.

A couple of weeks ago my nephew went into diabetic shock and the ambulance crew thought he was having a drug overdose and treated him accordingly – he nearly died. This moron at the side of the road decided my Dad was a pisstank, and therefore not worth helping. People! Ask questions. Do the work. Give the benefit of the doubt. Gather information and evidence before you judge. Someone’s life could actually be at stake.
