An Engaging Mystery

Posted By Lisa

Something kind of weird happened yesterday. A colleague told Paul that a picture of the two of us was in a frame in a furniture store he visited on the weekend. This is strange. It’s not like 680 News issues 5 x 6′s of us or that we endorse furniture or furniture stores. This place doesn’t even advertise on radio, let alone with us.

Our photo appears in several magazines and blown up to inhuman proportions on Go trains but there are no small versions. The photographer who took the picture sells his own frames and we wondered if maybe he was using us as the happy couple in the frame. It made us laugh! It made us wonder. So, because the store was on my way home anyway, I said I’d pop in for a look.

There we were, in what we call our “engagement shot”, staring out of an expensive frame on an expensive media cabinet in an expensive store. It was absolutely weird. And what’s weirder still is that someone had actually torn us out of a magazine to put us there. I wandered around the store and it was quite apparent that the other frames for sale were without photos of any kind, just the manufacturer’s logo or whatever. So why us? And why there? Was it a whim from a bored salesperson to dress up one frame with the first picture they saw that would fit in a magazine they were leafing through? Or was a deliberate choice to use the 680 morning team? It’s funny and puzzling and strange. I had a giggle, reported back to HQ via Blackberry, and slinked out. I guess we’ll never know.
