Stop Rushing Me
Have you ever noticed how many things conspire to put our lives on fast-forward? Maybe it’s because I’m on the other side of 40, and quality of life is becoming increasingly important as the quantity continues to diminish. But I’m really annoyed by things/people/concepts that rush my life.
Christmas decorations go up before Halloween. Two days ago, on July frickin’ 20th, a sales clerk in Grand and Toy actually directed me to the Back To School glue stick selection. Back to School! My August magazines arrive in mid-July. Everyone wants to rush us into tomorrow. No wonder some people – like me – find it a challenge to live in the moment. It seems there’s a conspiracy to keep us focused on the future.
There’s nothing wrong with planning ahead. I have always described myself as the type of person who would have checked out the lifeboat situation on the Titanic right after I boarded. But it’s relentless! Life is short. I’d like everyone to stop making it feel even shorter.
